Nanoscience with its array of new methods, tools and materials is on the brink of clinical application in a broad range of medical fields. The European Society of Nanomedicine is an interdisciplinary professional association with members from clinical medicine and from basic and applied research; it is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, initiated and supported by the European Foundation for Clinical Nanomedicine (CLINAM foundation). ESNAM's goals are the advancement of clinical applications of nanotechnology within the various fields of medicine and the exploration of its implications, in a fashion that does not compete with established, discipline-oriented societies, but with a vision to bridge medicine and technology across fields in a complementary fashion. ESNAM does so by establishing a forum for bringing clinicians and nanomedicine scientists together, as platform for reciprocal information and interaction, for finding a common language and a common vision, thus shaping the future application of clinical nanomedicine in the various specialties.
